Christmas in Sloatsburg Planted December 8, 2010 Sloatsburg, NY The Box is planted on Washington Avenue in Sloatsburg, New York. This is one of those things I have been driving past on my way back and forth to NJ for years. I always wanted to stop and take a look. When I finally did I found out that this is part of an Art in Public Places program in Rockland County. Its called "Dater's Crossing" and was created by an artist named Steve Burns - it was installed in December of 1994 which might account for the fact that a reindeer is pulling the train. The rest makes sense in terms of Sloatsburg's history - the deer always strikes me as a bit of whimsy. Anyhow there is more info about the material and history on the sculpture itself. There is not really a great place to pull over, I pulled across the street from the sculpture and the cops drove by several times without giving me hassle as I took pictures of the thing and checked out all its nooks... You will find a micro-box at the forward end of the piece --- on the side closest to the railroad tracks. Reach inside the space where the bottom beam meets the Concrete of the bridge - feel for a key-box attached on the inside of the bottom beam. This box has no logbook so logging online will help me a lot... if you are not an online log person you can e-mail me on AQ or at little_brown_mushroom@cheerful.com
Merry Christmas! Record your find at LbNA or AQ. CYA ON THE TRAIL!!!! LBM :o) |
