Dewar's On The Rocks Planted March 1, 2009 *** Currently Not Available *** Verplanck, NY In Memory of the Father of
MushrooM and Kitty Trax Our Dad's Drink was a Double Dewar's on the Rocks.... So Dad CHEERS! This box is 4 u. The Box is planted at St. Patrick's Cemetery on Broadway in Verplanck, New York. There are two gates into the cemetery - choose the one that is not guarded by two cherubs (you want the first entrance on the left if you came off Bleakley Ave or John Walsh Blvd, if you came from 6th Street in Verplanck you want the second entrance on the right) at the first Y there is a monument to those who have served their country, take the left. Halfway up this rise find two stones side-by-side with the last name of the twenty-ninth president of the United States.....One has a first name "P". Now keep driving on even though it looks like a dead end ahead - you will make a sharp right turn - on your right is a monument to St. Joseph's Children's home "J" (once an orphanage in Peekskill). You're going up a steep hill and turning right where you come to a T - right in front of you is the headstone of Clarke with a nickname "Mcgee" - make a left at the stone of Mcgee Clarke and come to a stone bench at which you will park. Look down to Our Lady and notice a large tree that resides at 250 Degrees. Walk towards the tree passing Dyckman, Lonce and Dellemare...... When you get to the tree look all around to notice the stones that are at the very edge of sacred ground. Find the stone with the same name you saw on the first two, say hello to William and Mary the Grandparents of the Father we knew. In the woods behind this stone find a small trinity tree - you'll have to hack up (watch for prickers and ivy!!). With the tree and the grandparents stone at your back take a bearing of 80 and you're on the right track. A cement block and a dead fall you will observe - There is no Bar here (alas) but find the "H" and you will find where Dad's favorite drink will be served!!! Our father's headstone was one of the first you were directed to, he is buried alongside his mother, father and brother. Mcgee Clarke happens to have been one of our Dad's best friends. Thank you for putting this box back carefully and re-hiding it exactly (if not better) than you found it. Update: a geocache has been planted within 10 feet of this box, the planter is aware and we are both including the presence of the other box/cache in our clues - so you might stumble across the cache, and please make sure the box is hidden especially well and the "H" is in place somewhere. THERE IS NO INK NOR ARE THERE MARKERS IN THIS BOX - PLEASE BRING YER OWN! This cemetery is a favorite place of deer and wild turkey, and is normally a sleepy, peaceful and quiet place - however teenagers do use it as a shortcut so use stealth as needed. There is another box planted here so do some homework :o) Record your find at LbNA or AQ. CYA ON THE TRAIL!!!! LBM :o) |
