I was quite surprised when I
learned that 5'2" British Actor, Comedian and Musician Dudley Moore
is not buried in Britain rather he is a permanent New Jerseyan.
Dudley was perhaps best know in the US for his roles in 10 and
Arthur (I really like his small role in the Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn
Flick Foul Play) But he had a long and successful career in
entertainment on both sides of the Atlantic. Dudley won two Golden
Globe awards one for Arthur and one for Micki & Maude.
He is also well know for his amazing musical talent (he attended
Oxford on a music scholarship) and His comedy team ups with fellow
Brit Peter Cook including the original Bedazzled. Dudley also wrote
the score for Bedazzled.
It would take a long time to list all his achievements in Music,
acting and comedy but perhaps you will be inspired to maybe rent
Bedazzled or Arthur or Foul Play or even check out you tube for a
piano performance before coming looking for this box.
In the mid 1990's Dudley's behavior became erratic, he could no
longer remember his lines and even began having trouble playing the
piano. The press widely reported that this was the result of a
lifestyle of heavy drinking and drug use catching up to him. However
this was not the case! Dudley in fact was suffering from a brain
disease called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy the disease is
degenerative and through the last years of his life Dudley's memory,
motor control, eyesight and speech all become impaired. He had moved
to New Jersey to live near a helpful friend and to attend Physical
therapy at the renowned Kessler institute. He died in 2002 at Age 66
in New Jersey from complications due to his disease. His last words
are reported to have been "I can hear the music all around me".
