Winter Blahs 2011 - Love Boat Edition Planted February 18, 2011 Peekskill, NY These Boxes are planted with permission at Blue Mountain Reservation in Peekskill, New York. This Series was planted for the Winter Blah’s 2011 event and was designed for winter. Searching for it at other times of the year will involve a fee to enter the park and some landmarks may be obscured. This series can be combined with the original Winter Blahs series by doing one forward while you do the other backwards... they will overlap. OK READY? LETS GO! At the Brown Entrance Booth of Blue Mountain Park – make a left at this Y and follow road past Trail Lodge to the last parking Lot with Lake on Right. After you park, walk back up the road to the trail head after the bridge and across from the lake (parking lot has a trail entrance, then there is one across from the lodge, you want the next one after that). You will see a brown sign that says "footpath". Follow this trail looking for a large graffiti tree on the right before the blue post, from that point look up into the woods to the left for a lightning struck tree - love might feel like being struck by lightning but we will start with Simple Things by miss moon and you will find it in the lost part of the tree... Go back to the trail and continue the way you didn’t come, after a bunch of large rock structures on the left will be 2 dead stumps with a heart-shaped hole across from a blazed tree on the right side of the trail. Inside the double stump find Hugs by 3 Blind Mice. Continue on the trail, at the top of the rise before you come to another blue blaze there is a big tree on the right. 100 degrees into the woods will find you at a jagged rock formation, go around to the back of this formation... having your heart broken right before the holidays might put you into a dark place - look for one, you will find Irish Heartbreak by HGE in a small cave. Back on the trail, pass a multi trunked blazed tree and #45 on your right, look for a large leaning tree on the left growing on rocks, go up to this tree and to the top of the hill (up and behind this tree) on the other side you should be able to see a large stump and find I love you by terrio. OK back to the trail - NO WAIT! I see another great box hiding spot from the stump, do you see it? So open and obvious? Go to it and find Love Stinks by dmc. Continue on the trail until you come to a four way intersection, looking ahead you will see a single green blaze. Go straight onto the green trail - there will be a rock wall on the left, look right for an Easter Island Head rock (LOL SORRY!!!!), behind this rock is a tree with a snuggly home, inside find the Love Birds by Sahalie. Go back to the trail intersection and turn left (you didn’t come from that way) look on your left for three trees with snakes. Standing in front of these trees and at 30 degrees you will see a downed tree up the hill, go to the tree, but don’t look inside it, rather look in the stump it points to and you can make like John Wesley and find your Heart Strangely Warmed by MushrooM. Go back to the trail and continue on, you will pass a sign on a tree that says #9 wood-side trail, continue on trail and pass a graffiti tree on your left, continue until you see a large teepee stump on the right side of the trail, inside the stump on the right you will find The Tunnel of Love by hopeinnc. Across the trail from this stump is a mess of deadfall, find P.D.A. by Team New Hampshire at the the point of the "V" underneath the stump on the trailside. Continue on the trail until you come to an intersection, you’re going to want to go right - over a bridge - BUT before you do look to your left for a pointy stump remnant, go there to find Brothers and Sisters by bluebirdlover. Go over the bridge and at #38 turn right, look for a two pronged stump on the left side of the trail, on the right across the trail in a stump look for some Affection by RiverKat. Continue on the trail and look for a triangle rock on the left, above it off the trail is a skinny three sister with a missing sister. inside this missing sister find I love you Snow Much by Bandaid.
Continue on the trail and look for pointy trailside rock #2, a
woodpecker tree is connected to it via a bridge, this tree hides Continue on this trail with the stream on your right. Clever boxers could take advantage of series overlap right about now… Watch for a
yellow blazed tree on the right, look across the trail for some
rocks and a dead (??) pine, behind the pine find Now look for a round circle yellow blaze on the right side of the trail - across the trail from this blaze you could find a skinny dead tree to follow, at its end a cave is on your left, in case you want to kiss them you can find Fluffy’s Lips, by Fluffy Cow inside on the right. NOTE: as of 1/14/2012 this box is missing. Continue until you see the trail lodge ahead and make a left at “40”.
Past a yellow blaze on the right, is a large triangle
rock on the left close to the trail (after a bend), go behind this
rock and try to use your compass (is it all wacky here like mine
was??) forget it, just LOOK right and see an obvious stump and find Continue on the trail and pass “41”, you can see the road to your right and you’re getting close to your car!! But I have one more box for you (or a few more if you’re getting both sets and working backwards on Winter Blahs). At the blue check marker on the left and a 3 yellow blazed tree on the right, you should see a small root system remnant sticking out of the snow, under this log find Bandaid Loves Snow by Bandaid; from here it’s a short walk back to the lot and your car. :)
